USS Leary (DD/DDR-879) was a Gearing-class destroyer commissioned in May 1945 and served as a radar picket destroyer for nearly two decades. She saw extensive Cold War service with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade in 1962, and conducted combat operations during the Vietnam War protecting carriers on Yankee Station and providing naval gunfire support.
