USS Stockham (DD-683), a Fletcher-class destroyer, served throughout World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1945, earning eight battle stars through participation in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Battle for Leyte Gulf, and major assault operations from Saipan to Okinawa. Decommissioned in 1946, she was recommissioned in 1951 and operated with the Atlantic Fleet and 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean until her final decommissioning in 1957. The ship was struck from the Naval Vessel Register in 1974 and sunk as a target off Puerto Rico in 1977.
